exploring kirks reservoir

Picnic's are slowly becoming one of my favourite things to do with family and friends; everyone bringing something along (or, you know, just ordering pizza) to someplace special, setting up a picnic blanket or grabbing one of those wooden table-and-chair sets that never seem to be clean and probably have moss climbing up at least one of the legs, and enjoying good food with even better company.

(Just remember to pick a day when the weather is good, else you'll have to pack your things up again and wonder inside the nearest of your houses' to get the feeling back into your hands again.)

The reason for this picnic was I've been craving to go to the beach and have gyros or even souvlaki, and I said as much in a message to my mother who immediately asked if I wanted to go somewhere for a picnic. As you can see, it wasn't entirely the beach that I had been hoping for but it was just as good.

We got there about an hour before the Park was due to close, but it still gave us enough time to eat our food and go for a wander around.

The Reservoir is home to so many common brown butterflies (I would have shown a photo, but the ones I took were super blurry, unfortunately), ducks and corellas everywhere and a family of kookaburras that seemed to take joy whenever I would drop something. I managed to get close enough to one of the corella's with my camera, but the cheeky little thing kept running just far enough away that the zoom on my lens wasn't enough to get a nice close-up.

But I did get a shot of these ducks!

I can guarantee that I'll be going on more mini-adventures like this more often over the summer; they're a heck of a lot of fun!
