mt franklin & hepburn springs

A picnic is always a fantastic decision in my books. It gets you out from behind your desk and out in the fresh air.

I honestly had no idea where we were headed, letting Esther pick the destination and off we went. This is something that I've been wanting to try for a while; having someone else pick the destination and have it be a complete mystery until you get there.

Mt Franklin is a place that I go past quite a lot more than what I thought I did, and I don't know if I had ever been there before but I'm really glad that we went. We were initially planning on having our picnic here, but it was crowded (we had kind of forgot that it was the long weekend over Easter and people do like to go camping.)

We did, however, go for a walk. (If I had been wearing runners, I definitely would have wanted to go on the hike around Mt Franklin.)

We came across this little bird, who flew right into our path, promptly saw us and then took off up into the tree. (I'm a little surprised at how this photo turned out.)

Deciding to move on and have our picnic elsewhere, we headed in the direction of Hepburn Springs. It wasn't as packed with people as what I would have thought it to be, but the wasps. There were so many wasps around, and we had to move several times around different spots because the wasps were either following us or just didn't like us.

We had actually under-packed the picnic basket; unlike last time when we decided on a picnic when we ordered pizzas to the location of the picnic and thus didn't have to actually take anything with us.

Afterwards, we escaped the wasps (or so we thought; they literally followed us everywhere around the place) and headed off on another walk.

It was a really nice day, and despite the colour of the sky, it didn't actually rain. 10/10 would recommend going on mystery trips with friends.
